Unique Fillers for Unique People
At Midwest Facial Plaststic Surgery and Aesthetic Skin Care we offer the largest variety of injectible fillers available in the Twin Cities. The benefit to you is that there exists no perfect single injectable filler that is best for everyone. While both BOTOX and injectible fillers are commonly used in conjunction with each other, injectible fillers address different issues, namely volume restoration, while BOTOX addresses muscle mobility. All of our fillers are combined with an anesthetic to minimize any discomfort to you.
Trust Your Face to a Facial Plastic Surgeon
All of our injectible fillers are placed by Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeons who serve as certified teaching specialists for a variety of National companies, educating those interested in learning the craft of filler injection. Furthermore our Facial Plastic Surgeons serve as local and regional experts on injection techniques. Our Facial Plastic Surgeons have been performing filler injections for greater than 10 years. The benefit to you is an experienced surgeon who understands subtle cosmetic differences in each of us giving you a natural look and feel .
There are a number of different injectible fillers currently available. Our highly trained Facial Plastic Surgeons will review with you what your desires are and determine with you, what would be the best choice for you. While the primary goal of fillers is to replace lost volume or enhance your existing appearance, each filler has different properties. It is not uncommon for our Facial Plastic Surgeons to use a variety of different fillers to achieve your desired results.
Juvederm
Juvederm is a Hyaluronic acid based dermal filler that is suitable for use in several different areas of the face. Patients who are seeking to plump up their lips, fill in facial lines or simply to restore some lost volume to cheeks or another area of the face may find Juvederm an excellent choice. Because Juvederm is made from a substance that so closely mimics the same hyaluronic acid already present in the human body, there is no allergy testing necessary. Juvederm generally lasts from about 6 to 12 months. Juvederm injections involve a very simple process: In some cases, the doctor will apply a topical numbing agent to the area to be treated, then allowing the numbing to take place before injection. With the newest and most advanced types of Juvederm such as Juvederm Ultra Plus, an anesthetic agent is contained in the Juvederm product, so a numbing process many not be required. Juvederm side effects are exceedingly rare, and when they do occur will last only a day or two. Reactions may include slight swelling at the injection site and reddened skin. Juvederm can be administered in less than an hour and patients can normally return to work and normal activity the same day of the procedure. Visit our Juvederm page.
Restylane
Restylane is a dermal filler made from Hyaluronic acid. Most Restylane patients choose this product due to its ability to restore facial volume. As the body ages, the body begins to lose collagen and elastin and the hyaluronic acid in the body rapidly depletes. Restylane replaces lost volume, adds definition in areas such as cheeks, fills in lines and adds volume to lips. Just as with Juvederm, no allergy testing is necessary since Restylane is made from a natural substance already present in the body. Restylane lasts for about 3 to 9 months, with the lip area retaining the product for closer to 3 months. Restylane injections are given after a numbing process that involves either a topical anesthetic or a dental block (especially common if product is being injected into the lips or lines around the nose and lips.) Side effects are extremely rare and will normally consist of only a mild reddening of the injection area and a temporary swelling of the area treated. Restylane patients can usually return to regular activities shortly after the procedure. Read more on our Restylane page.
Radiesse
Radiesse is a long lasting dermal filler that is sometimes termed a hyaluronic acid filler, but actually has a completely different chemical composition than hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse. Radiesse is composed of Calcium Hydroxylapatatite particles that are suspended in a hyaluronic acid gel. Radiesse is a thicker product and works differently than other dermal fillers. The injected hyaluronic acid fills in lines immediately, while the microspheres create a kind of scaffold around which new collagen growth is stimulated. Radiesse can be used in most areas of the lower face, but is not for use in the lip area. Radiesse is the longest lasting of the temporary dermal fillers, typically lasting for at least one year. After a Radiesse treatment, most patients will be able to return to normal activity that same day. Read more on our Radiesse page.
Artefill
Artefill is classified as a permanent dermal filler, and lasts up to 5 years. Artefill is made from polymethylmethacrylate microspheres enhanced with collagen. Artefill has a different chemical makeup than Radiesse, but works in a similar way. The collagen given an immediate skin plumping effect, while the microspheres help to stimulate the growth of new collagen. Like Radiesse, Artefill is very long lasting and is considered permanent: In fact, Artefill has been shown to last as long as 5 years. Artefill is meant for use in the lower face, especially in the folds and wrinkles that form around the nose and mouth. However Artefill should not be injected directly into the lip area. Side effects are rare and may include swelling and redness at the injection site, but this typically dissappears after the first 24 hours. Patients can normally go to work or resume their normal lifestyle immediately after the procedure. Read more on our Artefill page.
Sculptra
Sculptra is made from Poly-L-lactic acid, which fills in sunken areas of the skin, facial wrinkles and lines. Sculptra is made from a substance that the human body produces naturally, and therefore does not require allergy testing prior to treatment. This is a very long lasting filler, and depending upon the patient and the area that Sculptra is used in, it can last for 2 to 3 years. The Poly-L-lactic acid particles stimulate collagen growth and provide a look of fullness. Because Sculptra is a thinner product than some of the other dermal fillers, it is more easily molded and spread in some cases, so it may be best for creating volume in large areas of the face. Side effects are extremely rare and are generally confined to a slight skin redness or swelling where the injections were performed. Patients can return to normal activities the same day of the procedure in most cases. Read more on our Sculptra page.
